Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi

Since 1999

Sylvia Hernandez-Distasi has been bringing her unique brand of circus style choreography to Chicago stages since 1991. An Artistic Associate of Lookingglass since 1999, she has won three Jeff Awards for Choreography with the company (The Baron in The Trees, Hard Times, and Lookingglass Alice). She has worked on fifteen productions with the company, including: Black Diamond, Icarus, The Little Prince, Thaddeus and Slocum: A Vaudeville Adventure, and Moby Dick, among others.

Other theater credits include: Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago Children’s Theater, and Marriott Theatre (Jeff Award for Choreography, All Night Strut).

Sylvia is a co-founder of The Actors Gymnasium in Evanston, IL. She serves as the current Artistic Director, as well as the Master Teacher, choreographer, and director of the Professional Circus Training Program. She was the recipient of the 3Arts Award for Choreography in 2014 and The Illinois Theater Associations Award of Honor for Outstanding Contributions in 2015.
