MICHEL RODRIGUEZ CINTRA*


Michel Rodriguez Cintra (he/him) is a Cuban born dancer, choreographer, acrobat, actor, and educator. After graduation from Escuela Nacional de Arte he danced with Danza Contémporanea de Cuba, reaching the rank of Principal Dancer. In 2008 Rodriguez Cintra moved to Chicago and danced with Hedwig Dances, where he also created his own works. Later he joined Lucky Plush Productions, generating multiple roles in their signature devised dance-theater style, and touring nationally and internationally. He was a founding member of The Cambrians where he performed and co-choreographed. As a guest artist he was seen with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and other companies. Choreographic credits include Visceral Dance Company, Dancing in the Parks, Lit & Luz Festival Chicago-Mexico City, LatinX Chicago Arts Festival, and The Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival. As an actor Rodriguez Cintra has performed in the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival, the Chicago Physical Festival, The Actors Gymnasium, and Lookingglass Theater company. Most recently he was seen on TV in the PBS Special Lookingglass Alice. Currently Michel is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Northern Illinois University, and faculty at The Actors Gymnasium. Other accolades include the 3Arts Award, Dance Magazine’s 25 To Watch, and a nomination to the Jeff Awards for his work on Lookingglass Alice.
