Named one of the world’s top in-house communications professionals by the Holmes Report, Jon Harris served as Chief Communications Officer, Senior Vice President, Hillshire Brands (NYSE: HSH), where he oversees all aspects of integrated communications for the leading food company and its extensive line of high-quality brands, including Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Sara Lee, Aidells and State Fair. Harris is responsible for managing the company’s network of communications professionals and a multi-million dollar budget that includes corporate communications, employee communications and internal/external public relations. In addition, he serves as President of the Hillshire Brands Foundation.
Jon had previously served as Senior Vice President, Global Communications for Sara Lee Corporation, where he was responsible for leading marketing communications for the company’s core food and beverage brands and oversaw the spin-off of the company into two pure-play, publicly-held entities.
Prior to joining Sara Lee in 2005, Jon served as Vice President, Communications and Corporate Development for Bally Total Fitness Corporation, where he led media development, public relations, product placement and image marketing for the Company.
Previously, Jon led communications at OurHouse.com preceded by four years at Pepsi-Cola Company in Purchase, NY. Among his many roles at Pepsi-Cola Company, he served as Senior Manager of Public Affairs and headed up communications efforts behind the Company’s core brands and marketing initiatives. Earlier in his career, he worked at Ketchum Public Relations and Medicus Public Relations.
Jon is an adjunct professor at the Graham School at the University of Chicago. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rutgers University.
