Miniature paintings of the poetry of Shahnameh (Epic of Kings) have always played a determinative role in narratives of Persian identity. As a master minature painter and a role model of contemporary Iranian Women’s Movement, Alemeh Bagherian subverts symbols of male heroism to femenine ones. Ancient Persians (Parthians) in their battles with the Romans were the first military to use women as soldiers (horse riding archers). The expression “Parthian Shot” still exists in many languages.
