Manal Deeb, is a well recognized Arab American visual artist. She was recently named as one of the 11 must know Arab American artists. Manal studied studio arts at the University of Illinois, Chicago and then got her Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Psychology of Art from George Mason University in Virginia. Many of us may not be able to recognize complex emotions let alone have the outlet to express them. as society prioritized rational thinking, and associated ‘emotional’ with weakness.
Manal’s artistic practice is a reflection of the profound emotional and psychological toll of living in complex times, but it is also a tribute to the incredible resilience, heroism, and courage of the people in unfortunate places. Her work primarily with acrylics and mixed media on canvas, layering materials to express both the fractured nature of her experiences and the unwavering strength that emerges from survival. She believes, ‘Art gives us the ability to feel the affection that comes from those whom we do not know, from those unknown to us who are watching over our sleep and solitude, over our danger and our weaknesses — that is something still greater and more beautiful because it widens out the boundaries of our being, and unites all living things.’She has exhibited across the world in renowned public and private museums and galleries, and her artwork has been featured in journals, TV/radio and magazines. www.ygalleri.com
