My name is Ashouraita Khoshaba. I was born and raised in Chicago, surrounded by a strong Assyrian community and enriched by the city’s many diverse cultures.
My artwork channels the way I view the beauty in nature, my Assyrian culture, and all my current fascinations. Being someone who struggles with social anxiety and often feels out of place, everything seems to flow the way it should when I am working on my art, and that is exactly why I gravitate toward creating it. It is an outlet in which I can express myself through colors, textures, and shapes. I create with various mediums such as oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, and alcohol markers.
I like to work small and love creating tiny paintings the most because they feel more intimate to me. I also love how happy and inspired people seem to be when they look in wonder at the tiny canvases I have brought to life. I enjoy balance and boldness, which is made obvious in my work. I always incorporate a lot of texture and detail, building many layers to create either the vision in my mind or the object I am trying to reproduce.
