Black Diamond

Set in 2003 in Liberia, a country in West Africa colonized by freed American enslaved people and ravaged by a Civil War incited by Charles Taylor, the production told the story of an American journalist for BBC who meets Black Diamond, the leader of an elite group of female rebel fighters. Their encounter cracked open a door to the spiritual world, and a fever dream of shifting identities and self examination populated the stage with characters from Anansi The Spider and “The American Dummy” to Thomas Jefferson on heelie sneakers
