John Musial
![]() JOHN MUSIAL is a Chicago-based film & theater maker. He writes, directs, designs and makes stuff. As a writer/director with Lookingglass, he created The Great Fire, The Grail '97, Nelson Algren: For Keeps and a Single Day, and most recently, Our Future Metropolis. Musial has been a Lookingglass Ensemble Member since 1991, and int hat ancient past, he designed lights and sets for The Jungle, West, and Eurydice, among many other projects. More recently he was a scenographer for Our Town and Great Men of Science. As a filmmaker John has contributed films & Video for 1984, 28 and Algren. In 2001 Musial redirected and edited Algren as an hour-long television program for WTTW Channel 11's PBS program series Network Chicago Presents and was nominated for a regional Emmy. In spring 2010 (co-produced with Carlton College, Minnesota), he will design scenery & projections for Independent People, which he is co-adapting with Eva Barr. He has been Jeff nominated for Best New Work, Best Scenic Design and Achievement in Film Design. He received the latter award for Algren in 2008. Apart from Lookingglass, Musial has directed and designed projects with Redmoon Theater and Local Infinities Visual Theater. Professionally, John holds a Master's degree in Architecture from UIC and is working toward his professional license at Mark Miller Architects & Builders. In his spare time he is gut-rehabbing his 2-flat home in Logan Square.
