Louise Lamson (she/her) has been an Ensemble Member since 2016. Her first play with Lookingglass was The Idiot in 1998 directed and adapted by David Catlin. Other Lookingglass acting credits include: Plantation, Death Tax, Hard Times, The Secret in the Wings, The Wooden Breeks, Icarus (The Getty Villa, LA), The Brothers Karamazov, Our Town, The Arabian Nights, Ethan Frome, Metamorphoses ,and The Little Prince. She has directed the Lookingglass Young Ensemble in The Tin Woodman of Oz (written by Raymond Fox), The Patient Watcher, The Secret in the Wings, and most recently Metamorphoses. She is a Lookingglass Teaching Artist and has partnered with Hawthorne Scholastic Academy and Peirce Elementary School.  

Louise collaborated with her husband, Phil Smith, Tom Lee (Chicago Puppet Studio), and Ernie Adams (music) in 22-23 to make the movie, Cyclope, with 700+ students at the Lycée Francais de Chicago. She also toured The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci at Shakespeare Theatre Company and The Old Globe. She has toured nationally with other plays including The Secret in the Wings, The Odyssey, Hard Times, and Metamorphoses.

Louise is a graduate of Northwestern University. She is a proud mother of two boys, Guthrie and Wesley.

DAVID KERSNAR

Teaching Artist

David Kersnar (he/him) is a founding Ensemble Member of Lookingglass and has performed, designed and directed with the company since 1988. David co-wrote and directed 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas and The Last Act of Lilka Kadison for Lookingglass as well as Sita Ram for Chicago Children’s Choir in collaboration with Natya Dance Theatre and Lookingglass.

David last directed The Lord of the Fries, The Phantom Tollbooth, Lip Sync Invasion and Waging Peace for Lookingglass Young Ensemble. He has also co-directed devised work for Lookingglass Lab. Other directing and writing credits include productions at Next Theatre, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lively Arts and Chicago Children’s Theatre. Lookingglass acting credits include: Still Alice, Our Town, The Secret in the Wings, and Summertime. David has also appeared with the Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Remains Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Actors’ Gang in LA, and Touchstone Theatre of Pennsylvania.

He has twice served as the Lookingglass Artistic Director and founded and directed Lookingglass Education & Community Programs and has served as Master Teacher. David currently serves as a Professor of Practice at Penn State University, directing productions of Urinetown and Everybody.
He co-founded and directed over 40 films and plays nationally and internationally with Shaking the Tree Interactive Productions, which uses theatrical problem-solving techniques in business environments. Film and television credits include: U.S. Marshals, Since You’ve Been Gone, Early Edition, and Turks. David holds a B.S. in Theatre and Performance Studies and a MFA in Directing from Northwestern University.

Doug Hara (he/him) began working with Lookingglass in 1991 and joined the ensemble in 1993. He has participated as an actor, musician, composer, director and playwright. Most recently, Doug wrote and directed Mr. and Mrs. Pennyworth for Lookingglass’ 2016-17 Season. Other Lookingglass credits include: Eastland, The Brothers Karamazov, Metamorphoses, Lookingglass Alice, West, Eurydice, The Arabian Nights, Up Against It, Master and Margarita and Lookingglass Hamlet. Credits outside Lookingglass include: Journey to the West and The Odyssey (Goodman Theatre), Threepenny Opera, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Something Intangible, and Cyrano (Arden Theatre Company), and Our Town and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Two River Theater).
