David Schwimmer (he/him)

Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles, David Schwimmer trained at Northwestern University in Chicago. He is a co-founder of the Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre Company, where he has acted in, directed, and produced many productions, including: The Jungle, Big Lake Big City, Plantation!, Trust, Our Town, West, The Master and Margarita, In the Eye of the Beholder, The Odyssey, The Idiot, Of One Blood, his adaptation with Joy Gregory of Studs Terkel’s book Race, and Alexander Zeldin’s play Beyond Caring. He starred in the premieres of d-girl (Century City Playhouse) and Turnaround (Coast Playhouse) in Los Angeles, Glimmer Brothers (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Some Girls (Gielgud Theatre) in London, the revival of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial (Broadway), and Detroit (Playwrights Horizons), as well as directed Sex with Strangers for the Second Stage Theatre in New York. 

David starred as Robert Kardashian in Ryan Murphy’s anthology miniseries, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, for which he received an Emmy Award Nomination.  

David’s notable television and film credits include: The Iceman, Nothing But The Truth, Madagascar I, II, & III, Duane Hopwood, Big Nothing, Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Intelligence, Six Days Seven Nights, Apt Pupil, The Pallbearer, and the hit comedy series Friends, for which he received an Emmy Award Nomination. His film and television directing credits include: Friends, Growing Up Fisher, Since You’ve Been Gone, Run Fat Boy Run, the HBO series Little Britain USA, and Trust starring Clive Owen, Catherine Keener, and Viola Davis. 

He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Rape Foundation in Santa Monica, California.

Daniel Ostling (he/him) is a two time Tony Award-nominated Scenic (and Lighting) Designer based in San Francisco, Chicago and NYC. He has been an ensemble member of Lookingglass since 2003 (1997–2003, Artistic Associate) where he has designed over 26 productions. He is a long-time collaborator with fellow Lookingglass Ensemble Member Mary Zimmerman with whom he has designed over 27 productions, including Metamorphoses (Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway, 2003 Tony Award Nomination for Best Scenic Design).

Recent productions worth note include: Rusalka (Metropolitan Opera in NYC, 2017), a new Christmas Carol (McCarter Theatre), an original ballet Carmen (K-Ballet, Tokyo), Timon of Athens and Guys & Dolls (Oregon Shakespeare Festival), Lookingglass Alice (Lookingglass, regional theatre tours), King Charles III (American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco), Clybourne Park (Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway, 2012 Tony Award Nomination for Best Scenic Design, 2012 Tony Award-Winner for Best Play), White Snake (Wuzhen Theatre Festival, China; Guthrie Theater; The Old Globe; Goodman Theater; Oregon Shakespeare Festival; Berkeley Repertory Theatre; McCarter Theatre), Candide (Chicago, Washington, D.C., Boston), Title and Deed (sets and lights, Lookingglass), and Danai Gurira’s The Convert (Princeton, LA, Chicago, Ovation Award for Best Scenic Design). He will be designing scenery for The Odyssey at Oregon Shakespeare Festival opening July 2017 and K-Ballet’s (Tokyo) new production of Cleopatra opening in October 2017.

His work as a director includes his 2016 Lookingglass directing debut production of Blood Wedding (which he also designed sets for) and his 2011 production of Jacque Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at Two River Theater in New Jersey.

He has worked at numerous regional theaters across the country, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), New York Shakespeare Festival (in Central Park), Lincoln Center, The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizon, Shakespeare Theatre Company (Washington, D.C.), Long Wharf Theatre, McCarter Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, American Theater Company (San Francisco), Berkeley Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Mark Taper Forum, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Arena Stage, Guthrie Theater, Denver Center for the Arts and Portland Center Stage, among many others.

Opera designs include: Rusalka, Lucia Di Lammermoor, and La Sonnambula (Metropolitan Opera, NYC), LaScala (Milan, Tokyo), Merry Widow (Lyric Opera or Chicago), Ainadmar (Tanglewood Music Festival, Los Angeles Philharmonic), Phillip Glass’ Galileo Galilei (NYC, London, Chicago) and Suor Angelica/Gianna Schicchi (San Francisco Opera Center).

Internationally, his Pacific Overtures traveled to Donmar Warehouse in London (2003 Olivier Winner for Best Musical). His work has also been seen in Japan, Italy, Australia, China, the UK and Canada.

Dan was a tenured Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Chicago from 2003–11 in the MFA program before he moved to San Francisco. Since, he has continued to teach at Northwestern part-time.
