MARY ZIMMERMAN

Mary Zimmerman (she/her) is an Ensemble Member of Lookingglass Theater, an Artistic Associate of the Goodman Theatre, and a professor of Performance Studies at Northwestern University. Her work with Lookingglass includes Metamorphoses (for which she won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Direction), The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Argonautika, The Odyssey, The Arabian Nights, The Secret in the Wings, S/M: A Dream Biography, Treasure Island, and the site-specific Eleven Rooms of Proust. At the Goodman, her work includes directing and adapting The Journey to the West, Silk, Jungle Book, The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, Candide, Galileo, Galilei and directing Wonderful Town and The Music Man. These and other works have been performed at Berkeley Repertory, Second Stage, The Princeton and McCarter Theaters, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and many other regional theaters; and they have been produced and directed by others nationally and internationally. She also directs opera, including six productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and La Scala in Milan. She is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. This season she is directing Florencia en el Amazonas at the Metropolitan, and her adaptation of Mozart, The Matchbox Magic Flute at the Goodman Theater. Her Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci is touring to The Shakespeare Theater of DC and The Old Globe in San Diego. Among all the shows she has been involved with, The Steadfast Tin Soldier ranks high among her most favorite.

Director of Curiosity: Education and Community Engagement

Teaching Artist

Andrew White (he/him) is a founding Ensemble Member of Lookingglass, where he currently serves as Director of Curiosity: Education and Community Engagement. He has participated as an actor, director, or writer in the workshop and development of more than forty Lookingglass original adaptations and world premieres. He directed the 2016 production of Aaron Posner’s Life Sucks; wrote the book and lyrics for the 2012 production, Eastland: A New Musical; co-wrote the 2011 world-premiere, The Last Act of Lilka Kadison; wrote and directed the 2004 adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 (Jeff Award for Adaptation); and wrote and directed the company’s 1989 production of Of One Blood, about the 1964 murders of Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman in Mississippi. He has also worked as writer and director with Lookingglass, The Breakthrough Group and Shaking the Tree, constructing and designing scenarios which address the various needs of diverse corporate clients. He lives in Evanston with his wife, Shari; their children, Jules and Asher, live in Brooklyn and Providence respectively.

TEMPLE WILLIAMS III

Temple Williams III (he/him) has been an Ensemble Member since 1989 and is currently the Chief Operating Officer of 51 Minds Entertainment and Authentic Entertainment (both subsidiaries of Endemol Shine North America), Los Angeles based production companies focused on non-scripted TV (“Below Deck”, “Below Deck Mediterranean”, “Trading Spaces” and the feature film Beats for Netflix). Temple first worked with 51 Minds as Executive Vice President and General Manager from 2009–12. In addition to his career in television, Temple is also Chief Executive of Freedom Media, a company dedicated to financing independent feature films (credits include The Forger, Equals and Maggie’s Plan).

Earlier in his career, Temple spent ten years at Viacom in various production roles including Senior Vice President of Production at MTV and later, Senior Vice President of Production for the Viacom Entertainment Group which includes Comedy Central, Spike TV and TV Land.

In addition to his work in the corporate and production worlds, Temple has held a number of creative positions, including Executive Producer of The Dead Girl (a feature film starring Brittany Murphy, Toni Collete and James Franco, nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Picture), Co-President of the Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance (a not-for-profit organization dedicated to connecting Northwestern alumni through philanthropy, education and the arts) and Managing Director of Lookingglass. Temple lives in Los Angeles, California.
