Director of Education

Mara Stern Caesar joined Lookingglass as Director of Education in the Curiotisty Department in 2020, where she oversees education and programs including camps, classes, school-based artist-in-residency programs, student matinees, and the Young Ensemble. Mara was formerly the Director of Education and Community Engagement at Northlight Theatre where she helped to pilot original education programming, and built Northlight’s community engagement programming. She serves a co-chair on the professional development (NAVIGATE) planning cohort with Communities in Schools Chicago.

Mara has been a Teaching Artist with Lookingglass where she has piloted several new programs on health and wellness, physical theatre and adaptation. Mara also spent two years in Lookingglass’ box office as the Manager of Audience Services and as Group Sales Manager. She has been a Teaching Artist with Steppenwolf Theatre Company in their pre- and post-show residency program, Writer’s Theatre Novel Series program, and Turning the Page, a non-profit dedicated to creating community in North Lawndale’s public schools.

Artistically, Mara is a director and producer in Chicago, working with EX-Pats, Jackalope Theatre, Pride Films and Plays, The Kinematics, The Gift Theatre, and The Hypocrites. Mara is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and The British American Drama Academy in London.
