Lookingglass, through a collaborative, story-centered process, seeks to invent important new theatre experiences that transform both artists and audiences. Since its beginning, the Lookingglass Ensemble has sought to train its members in varied disciplines of expression & performance—theatre, circus, gymnastics, photography, music, dance, puppetry, adaptation, hip-hop, and film production, etc. ‘gglassworks’ is Lookingglass' program that develops both the stories and the multi-disciplinary skills of the artists who create that work on the main stage.
The Lookingglass Young Ensemble is a community program that mirrors gglassworks. Members of the Young Ensemble engage in a nine-month process that culminates in performing two original works running in repertory in the Lookingglass Chase Studio Theater every May. This process includes ensemble-building, material exploration/generation, skill development, rehearsal, and performance. Young Ensemble members receive training directly from Lookingglass Ensemble & Artistic Associates, Visiting Guest Artists, and our roster of Teaching Artists. The Young Ensemble is a group of 35 diverse, passionate, and focused young artists ranging in age from 8 to 18.
