Christine A. Binder
Ms. Binder has designed over 175 productions in Chicago and around the
country. In theatre, Christine has designed for The Steppenwolf Theatre
Company, Chicago Shakespeare, The Court Theatre, Redmoon Theatre, Northlight,
and Lookingglass Theatre Company, the McCarter Theatre, Hartford Stage, the
Oregon Shakespeare Festival and many others.Â
Ms. Binder’s opera designs include work at the Lyric Opera of Chicago,
Chicago Opera Theatre, San Diego Opera, New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Florida Grand Opera, and Houston Grand
Opera. Recent designs include: Trust
and Fedra for Lookingglass, and The
Merry Widow, Faust and Tosca for the Lyric
Opera of Chicago. Upcoming productions are: Ethan
Frome, The Last Act of Lilka Kadison for Lookingglass; Lohengrin, Un Ballo en Maschera, and
a new production of The Mikado
directed by Gary Griffin for The Lyric Opera of Chicago; La Traviata for Austin
Lyric Opera and Madison Opera. Other work includes an on-going
tour of Lookingglass Alice. Ms. Binder has received 2 Jeff Citations for
her work with Redmoon Theatre, (Frankenstein
and Frankie and Johnny) and has been nominated for Jeff
Awards for her work with the Court Theatre and Lookingglass Theatre
Company. She is the Head of Lighting for
The Theatre School at DePaul University and resides in Oak Park, Illinois
with her husband Claude and son Cody.
